Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Great progress has been made for the Obama Green New Deal.  On the 17th of February, the president will have signed a whopping $787 billion stimulus package. What’s exciting is that over $70 billion is marked for go green projects.

There will be a few billion dollars put to projects for clean energy, energy efficiency, and green transportation. Funding is also said to be available as grants for manufacturers of advanced battery systems.

President Obama also expects to create and save millions of jobs. Some that will actually be considered “green jobs”. Jobs in the solar industry as well as green building materials are expected to grow exponentially.

The government will also get some funding to green up federal vehicles and to purchase more fuel efficient buses and trucks. Electric vehicles may also receive quite a bit of attention.

In an effort to cut carbon emissions, billions of dollars will be put towards smart grid technologies and also to carbon capture and storage projects. There are even plans for a few million dollars in rebates for consumers who purchase energy efficient and smart appliances. These are ones that have the energy star label on them.

Finally we’re on the path where we’ve realized that going green is necessary to change the way our economies function. Keep on the look out for more on the Obama new green deal.
