Thermal Energy Another Power Source
Thermal energy is a green renewable energy source that is largely left untapped. Investments in other forms of renewable energies are well known like solar and wind to a lesser degree is wave power but what about thermal?
First what is thermal energy? This is defined as a form of energy that manifests itself as an increase of temperature. It is the sum of sensible heat and latent heat. The best known source of thermal energy is our sun. Most people think of it as a heat source. This is true but it is only heat after it leaves the sun. Heat is thermal energy in transfer or in motion.
Another source of renewable thermal energy is our own earth. Deep inside is a heat source that has been around since the earth was formed. Most people have heard about volcanoes. This is the earth releasing trapped thermal energy. The force is enough to blow the top off of huge mountains. But not all of the thermal energy from the earth is so explosive and dangerous. The State of Idaho has decided to start an incentive program for residents and businesses to invest in thermal heat pumps.
The theory is sound. This involves taking heated water from the ground and converting it to electricity or as radiant heat to supply heat for buildings. The temperature of this ground water is constant and with a regulator can be used.
As for electrical plants the first geothermal plant went online over 20 years ago. Due to the economic conditions present at that time it was closed. In 2002 this same plant was reopened and in 2008 it went online and started supplying the people of Idaho with 10 megawatts of electricity. There are 24 other sites in Idaho alone with the same potential to create renewable power. Thermal Energy, this renewable source of energy is non-polluting and will always be present.

Cut up a clove or two of garlic and set aside. The air will help to release the nutritious properties of the garlic. Cut up half an onion. Melt a spoonful of coconut oil in a large frying pan. Sauté onion in coconut oil until it softens. Then add the garlic.
Rinse and coarsely cut up the Kale and add to the pan. Turn the heat down to low and cover. Cook stirring once or twice until Kale is wilted and then serve.
For an added flavor, drizzle some toasted sesame oil OR balsamic vinegar over the cooked Kale.
Kale can also be cut up and added to a salad. Or you can cut it up, pour some balsamic vinegar over it and put it in the refrigerator for a bit before serving.

A Little History of John Muir with Some of His Nature Quotes and the Founding of the Sierra Club
John Muir (1838-1914,) is known as “The Father of our National Parks.” He delivered constant Nature Quotes, and he was one of the most famous and influential naturalist and conservationist in America.
He is renowned for his exciting adventures in California’s Sierra Nevada, and through his world travels searching for nature’s beauty. John Muir constantly informed people about protecting our beautiful natural heritage. The natural beauty of Yosemite, Sequoia, Mount Rainier, the Petrified Forest, and the Grand Canyon National Parks exist largely due to the efforts of John Muir.

Muir was an inspiration to President Theodore Roosevelt and because of him our nation acquired several fine conservation programs. In modern times you may see a tribute to Muir on the reverse of the California State Quarter.

Some of the Nature Quotes that John Muir is famous for are:
1) – Keep close to Nature’s heart and break clear away once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.
2) – I never saw a discontented tree. They grip the ground as though they liked it, and though fast rooted they travel about as far as we do.
3) – God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches, and a thousand tempests and floods. But he cannot save them from fools.
4) - In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.
In 1892, John Muir and others founded the Sierra Club, “to make the mountains glad.” John Muir was the Club’s first president, which office he held until his death in 1914.

Muir’s Sierra Club has gone on to help establish a series of new National Parks and a National Wilderness Preservation System. His life reminds us of the important things that just one person can do.
The following three Initiatives for Conservation currently being promoted by the Sierra Club are:
1 ) – Smart Energy Solutions, to shift away our dependence on fossil fuels to clean renewable energy fuels.
2 ) – Protecting America’s Wildlife and Habitat.
3 ) – Fight Pollution and create safe and healthy communities.
In these days with all the pollutants in the air, and chemicals in the ground water, it’s strange that more people haven’t joined the green movement. The reason could be that not everyone knows just where to start when it comes to going green. There is no better place to start than right here. The Sierra Club is a Not For Profit Corporation and donations are tax deductible.
Because you want a safe and healthy community in which to live and to have smart energy solutions to combat global warming, and an enduring legacy for America’s wild places, then you also should become a member of the Sierra Club.
You will find a membership application on right here on WayToGoGreen dot org. Thank you very much to those of you who have already joined the Sierra Club and we hope every one of our readers also becomes a member. Consider your membership to be in honor of John Muir.
