Green Energy And What It Means For Your Future

An easy way to cut energy costs and go green is to dress warm. Light or heavy sweaters will both provide you with additional warmth of up to 4 degrees. There is no need to be fashionable while at home watching TV, so put on some layers and put some money back in your pocket!

When you are sleeping, or not at home, set your thermostat to 60 degrees to save energy. At this temperature your home uses very little energy. This helps you minimize the amount of energy that you use and helps you save money as well.

A home-energy monitor can help you stay on top of your energy use. These monitors meausure electricity usage in real time and approximate what your bill is going to be. Research has shown that consumers can reduce their consumption when they see what they’re paying to run appliances and other home necessities.

Try drying your laundry outside in the sun whenever possible, rather than using a dryer. Using the sun can make clothes smell a lot better. They will smell fresher than if you used the dryer. This will save you a ton on your utility bills, leaving you extra money to turn your air conditioning on instead.

Keeping your refrigerator and freezer in a cooler spot can save you energy. Don’t expose these appliances directly to sunlight or heat. If they absorb heat, their internal temperature will rise and they will need more energy to run.

A great green energy device is the on-demand water heater. Water heaters that are old-fashioned will constantly run, which in turn heats water when not needed, and this ends up wasting lots of energy. On-demand models provide hot water instantly when necessary, instead of continuously throughout the day, saving you money and energy.

See if your insulation needs replaced. If you live in a house that is more than 30 years old, chances are, your home needs more insulation. With increased insulation, your home stays warmer and heating costs go down.

You may want to consider using a geothermal system if you are going to upgrade your heating or cooling system in your home. Pipes will be run underground which contain both water and a refrigerant. These underground pipes are used to heat and cool homes. This type of system is more efficient as the below-ground temperatures are steadier than outside air temperatures.

Going green with energy use in your home now will equate to savings financially and environmentally in the future. It is easy to see that green energy methods are not overly difficult or costly. Take the information you have seen here and make a positive transition into a greener way of life.
