A Super Green Food Spinach

Spinach is a super green food. This leafy vegetable can be grown just about anywhere as it is a cool-season crop and able to withstand frosts. It can be used a variety of ways and provides us with a number of vitamins and minerals making it a super green food.

Vitamins and Minerals:
Popeye the sailor man made spinach popular for its iron content as he would eat it and become stronger after the fact. Although it doesn’t contain as much iron as originally thought, it is still a great source of iron and calcium. It also contains folic acid, vitamin K, vitamin A, magnesium, potassium, protein, fiber, vitamin E, and even omega-3 fatty acids.

Spinach Preparation:
Spinach can be bought at grocery stores and farmers markets. It comes fresh in bunches or loose, in pre-packaged bags, frozen or canned. It can be put into salads for added flavor. If you have a juicer, try adding a little spinach to your carrot or other juices for added vitamins and minerals. Or you can cook spinach a few different ways using a number of great recipes that can be found online or in some cookbooks.

Possible Benefits:
In addition to the vitamins and minerals that spinach provides us, it has other health benefits as well. Spinach may help to protect us from arthritis, osteoporosis, heart disease, and even a few types of cancer including, prostate, ovarian, and colon cancer. These are just a few reasons to encourage you to enjoy spinach on a regular basis as it is a super green food.
