Do Your Part And Go Green At Work

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

There are hundreds of articles about how to go green at home, but do you know how to Go Green At Work?

Depending on where you work, there are a number of ways in which you can continue your green way of life, and still perform your job. Here are a few ideas you might use while you’re at your work place.

Office Options:
For those who work in an office, there are several ways to go green. Almost everyone in an office has to make copies from time to time. When finished with those copies, don’t just throw them away. Use the back sides as scratch paper or to make notes for upcoming meetings. Also, try to use as little paper as possible. Try to send memos via email rather than office mail. Finally, remember to shut off your computer, and the power strip, before leaving work. By not turning off your power strip, you might still be using electricity if it has certain types of line conditioning in it.

Construction Options:
For those who work on a construction site, try a few of these ideas. First of all, many construction workers take a lunch, but when doing so make sure to always take reusable containers and dinnerware. This way, there is no garbage left over. When purchasing cabinets or countertops, try to find products made from recycled materials. And finally, if you find that you’ve got several pieces of scrap wood lying around, pick it up and reuse it. If you’ve got a wood-chipper, you can create your own wood chip mulch.

Restaurant Options:
One of the hardest places to completely go green is in the restaurant industry. However, there are some companies that will buy used fryer oil to make into other products, including a new type of bio-fuel for cars. Many restaurants offer take-out food. There are now many different brands of biodegradable to-go containers make from corn and/or wheat fibers. Also, when cleaning any part of the dining room or kitchen, try to use non-toxic, chemical free cleaners.

Just because you’re not at home, doesn’t mean that you can’t continue in your drive to go green. With a few simple techniques, you’ll know exactly how to do your part and Go Green At Work.
