Progress for the Obama Green New Deal

Great progress has been made for the Obama Green New Deal.  On the 17th of February, the president will have signed a whopping $787 billion stimulus package. What’s exciting is that over $70 billion is marked for go green projects.

There will be a few billion dollars put to projects for clean energy, energy efficiency, and green transportation. Funding is also said to be available as grants for manufacturers of advanced battery systems.

President Obama also expects to create and save millions of jobs. Some that will actually be considered “green jobs”. Jobs in the solar industry as well as green building materials are expected to grow exponentially.

The government will also get some funding to green up federal vehicles and to purchase more fuel efficient buses and trucks. Electric vehicles may also receive quite a bit of attention.

In an effort to cut carbon emissions, billions of dollars will be put towards smart grid technologies and also to carbon capture and storage projects. There are even plans for a few million dollars in rebates for consumers who purchase energy efficient and smart appliances. These are ones that have the energy star label on them.

Finally we’re on the path where we’ve realized that going green is necessary to change the way our economies function. Keep on the look out for more on the Obama new green deal.

The Sierra Club is Asking President Elect Obama to Adopt a Clean Slate Agenda on the Day of Inauguration

We heartily endorse the plan in place by the Sierra Club to request that asks President Obama on Inauguration Day to Adopt a Clean Slate environmental and energy policy. We have discussed the Obama Green Policy on this Blog before and this is right in line with that.

Click on the Sierra Club Free Backpack Banner on this Blog, or click on the link at the bottom of this article, to take you to the Sierra Club’s membership area and then use their suggested petition to send the new president your message of encouragement.

The four items that are being asked to start with are as follows:

1. Direct the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to grant a waiver that will allow California and over a dozen other states to limit global warming pollution from cars.

2. End the rush to build dirty coal plants by directing EPA to require all new and existing power plants limit their global warming emissions.

3. Direct your EPA to end irresponsible mountaintop removal coal mining by stopping coal companies from dumping rock and waste into valleys and streams.

4. Restore America’s international leadership in the fight to end global warming by publicly committing the U.S. to cut its CO2 emissions by at least 35% by 2020.

Wouldn’t it be marvelous if you could join the ranks of the many and actually help to affect change in this global matter? There is power in the numbers. Let your voice be heard!
