Natural gas fracking using enormous quantities of water scares the hell out of most home owners that live in an area where this process is used to extract gas out of the Marcellus Shale rock.

Now there is a method being used called Propane Fracking that just might be an acceptable procedure for both parties in this argument. All new design of a Two Cylinder opposed more efficient engine, designed by former Volkswagen executive.  This is coming soon to the automobile industry and not soon enough for our fuel consuming readers.

Bill Gates and other investors have just added a much needed boost to bring this engine dubbed the OPOC^TM (Opposed Piston Opposed Cylinder) in to production.  According to a CruchBase article regarding the $23.5 Million invested by Gates and Khosla Ventures it appears as though we will be seeing this predicted 100 MPG engine in production.  Read more... Wind is the result of the uneven heating of the Earth by the sun and the fact that temperatures will always be trying to reach an equilibrium (heat is always moving to a cooler area). With the rising price of energy and the damage to the environment from fossil fuels, it is more and more equitable to harvest this renewable resource.

The benefits of wind energy are that it is virtually free (once you purchase the equipment) and there’s no pollution. The disadvantages include the fact that it isn’t a consistent source (the speed varies and many times it is insufficient to make electricity) and it typically requires about one acre of land.  Read more... Seems to me that as bad as it is now, it will only be worse until it stops.  Then the nightmare of what to do with the oil and how to cope.

It seems the Chinese are more than just talk. The Chinese Government made a big thing about Earth Hour a few days ago, but before that they were already planning on moving into green renewable power as a source for their growing industrial power needs.

In the year 2010, China plans to bring online a 1.5 megawatt solar thermal power station.  This will be capable of supplying the power needs of over 30,000 homes.  The cost of this plant is to be approximately 100 million yuan.  The power plants will cover an area of approximately 13 hectares.  The funding for this project is from the Ministry of Science, the city of Beijing and the China Academy of Science.  Read more... Many Americans like myself, prefer a pickup truck to a car for driving and hauling purposes. With most Americans thinking fuel economy and using green thinking I thought for sure a hybrid pickup truck would be easy to find.

I found 2 models right away, both from GM and both full size. The Chevy Silverado and the GMC Sierra are large and dependable pickup trucks. A wind power and a solar power love story.

These are my friends, Mart and Cappy.  They built this lovely log cabin home by hand on top of a mountain in Upstate New York about ten years ago.  They have never been hooked up to the power grid, not ever, and have never paid an electric company power bill.

Was it easy to do?  Well relatively so.  Has it saved them a ton of money?  Well not sure exactly, but might be near the break even point.  Those are some of the types of questions that I asked late this past summer the day I visited and took these photos.

When it comes to green cleaning products you obviously want a  non toxic cleaner for your home.  Some of the green cleaners are easy to make with ingredients you probably already have on hand.  Just a few basic items are all you need to clean safely and completely.  You can even make flea powder for your pets in a natural way.

Vinegar is a neutralizer.  If you want to maintain the color of your clothing, add some vinegar to the wash water to set the dye.  With the addition of some lemon juice you have a powerful acid to dissolve hard water stains, tarnish, grimey build up and dull surfaces on wood.  Read more... People want safe cleaning products and they ask us all the time for some recommendations.   You’ll see they save money in addition to saving the environment.  All you need are a few basic items which are probably already in your pantry.

First, get a box of biodegradable Borax.   This product is billed as a laundry booster, but without phosphates or chlorine, it is a safe household cleanser when diluted with water.
